Dapper Snappers Is Closing It’s Doors (Final Blog)

Once upon a time, there was a new mom that saw a need for her skinny little boy and decided to solve it. That need grew into a business and the product became Dapper Snappers. The year was 2007 and we had no idea that such a simple product would turn into an international must-have item for moms.

Recently, a new opportunity has presented itself and we believe is in the best interest of our family to take it. Unfortunately, doing so means we will not be able to continue making Dapper Snappers.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you, officially, of our decision to close the Dapper Snapper doors on 6/30/2017. We’ve tried very hard over the past couple years to find the right person(s) to purchase the product line and equipment, but alas no viable candidates were found.

We do have inventory on the shelves (and being sold online), and more material still being made into product, but the supply is limited.

We have enjoyed working with you and your team very much as both customers and fellow entrepreneurs.

We thank you for being our customers and supporters over the past 10 years. ♥

“Genius solution to everyday problem”

“Genius product. I have slim toddlers with long legs which makes it difficult to buy pants. If they fit in the length they usually fall right off. Out comes our dapper snapper and we’re in business. Such a simple design for an easy fix to everyday mom problems. I have several sets that my toddlers share. I recommend removing the belt before washing pants as the first belt I bought really took a beating with all the washing and drying. I will say it is still in my lineup it’s just a big saggy compared to the ones I haven’t washed. I would recommend this to other moms. Just make sure you buy pants with belt loops to use these!! It’s shocking how many kids pants don’t have belt loops!”

“I have been looking for a belt for my two year-old, and having no success. I found these on Amazon and am very pleased with them. At first I thought they were a little pricey, but since I can’t find a small enough belt, and they work so well, I have decided they are definitely worth the money. They work for my three younger kids, ages 6, 2 and 1. My kids tend to be skinny with no rear end, and I use onesies to hold their diapers on! Dapper Snappers have solved that issue for me, holding up their pants very well. There is only one pair of pants with oddly spaced belt loops that they have not worked on so far.”

“Grandson is a slim build with no real butt bump so this was quite a handy little item. With the “belt” only in the back loops it will not hinder the potty training process either. Great idea.”

“Wish I had invented these!”

“Great! I don’t remember how I found these, it may have been searching through amazon for a “toddler belt”. Well these are even better… they snug up the pants from behind, so for potty training your toddler doesn’t have to deal with unbuckling a belt. My son had several pairs of droopy pants that would sometimes fall to his knees when he was playing. The elastic on the pants my have stretched a bit, but the pants were still in good shape. These snaps solved the problem — kept the pants on him tightly, yet made diaper changes and potty training a breeze. This is one of those items that is simple, yet sheer genius, I wish I would have thought of it!!! And I can clearly see how they would work from probably about 18 months up to 4 years.”

Dapper Snappers are made in the USA, You can find us in Port Orange, Florida. Port Orange is a small Family oriented town South of Daytona Beach. We manufacture under the name Toddler Tech USA.

We’re lucky to be located very close to East Coast Roasters a.k.a. “Christopher Bean Coffee“. I can tell you this, on a good day, or maybe when the wind is just right, we can smell those beans roasting and it is awesome!

Toddler Tech USA (Dapper Snappers) is a small family owned and run business. These unique toddler belts were invented by a Mom, who saw a need and filled it! My favorite line from the movie Robots! “See a need, fill a need”.

We’re also about 10 minutes from “The Worlds Most Famous Beach“! Most people think that it’d be hard to work, living in a vacation destination but, you get used it, and pretty soon you take it for granted, seeing as how it is always there and we can go anytime. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful place to spend your downtime. We do enjoy it when we get the chance!

We’re also about 20 minutes away from Once Upon a Child Daytona Beach. They’re one of our Dapper Snapper Retailers! So if you ever need one and you’re in that neck of the woods, you can always grab it there!

We’re also 20 minutes from the “Daytona International Speedway“! During race times, we can hear the cars racing from our offices and warehouses. I must admit, it’s kinda cool.

So there you have it, a few little things you may not have known about us here at Dapper Snappers! Hope you enjoyed.

Dapper Snapper – The Story of The Invention

If you haven’t read the story, it’s been on our blog for quite a while, but I thought it was time to share it again for those of you who don’t know the story behind the product.

Being a mom has been the most amazing thing I’ve ever done. In February of 2005, Super Dude was born and my life has never been the same. He started to walk at 8 1/2 months old…yes he did, here’s proof:

Immediately, we realized that we had a problem. Jacob was too skinny to keep his pants up. That’s right…my son was a 9 month old thug. I bought some jeans for him, you know because jeans go with everything. All of them were just right in the length but way too big in the waist. I couldn’t see using a safety pin because he would likely poke himself with it. I didn’t want to try to take in the waist with a sewing machine because mine couldn’t handle denim. So I wasn’t left with many options.

I tried Dritz Fashion Fit Clips but Super Dude figured out how to take them off so I had to start attaching them to the inside of the belt loops. Then one day, I was so frustrated because these things would work just fine on one pair of pants but not another. The Fashion Fit Clips were not adjustable. My husband looked at me, and noticing my frustration he asked, “If you were to do it differently, what would you do?” I began to describe to him what my needs for the perfect solution would entail. Within an hour I had created a prototype. It was elastic just like the Fashion Fit Clip, but it was adjustable. Okay, maybe not just like it. It had snaps instead of clips.

After showing the invention to several mom’s, I had come to the conclusion that I may be onto something. Their encouragement sent me on an 18 month journey of research and development. On June 21st, 2007, I launched Dapper Snappers toddler belts and started selling them retail and having them reviewed by mom bloggers. It took months to build up the momentum, but now this little empire is a force to be reckoned with. Who’d of thought that lil ‘ol no-college-degree-me would invent kids belts that would rock the toddler world? (That’s not to say you shouldn’t get a college education, because you really REALLY should!)
I never in my wildest dreams imagined that Dapper Snappers sell globally. Currently we sell to 14 countries! Did I say we? Yes, that’s right, Hubby quit his full time job to work side by side with me. And I couldn’t do this without him. It’s only been 3 years, and this business is bigger than I could have ever imagined. And it’s still growing!

Dapper Snappers have become the biggest necessity for mom’s of skinny toddlers everywhere!

Here’s what a few of our customers have to say:

“Game changer! My daughter is 5 years old, 4 feet, and 38 pounds. She is a tall skinny little girl who will only where leggings. The Dapper Snapper and Add-On Clips have allowed my daughter to wear leggings that fit and not look as though the flood is coming soon. She doesn’t complain about it or mention it. She’s able to pull her own pants down to use the bathroom and change. I’m very happy with the Dapper Snapper.”

“This is great for any child that needs their pants made a little smaller. My child is very tall but also very thin so we have a hard time fitting her waist. With this belt there is no problem it makes the waist come in to fit her and the length already fits. Saves you money on having to by slim pants and that is if you can find them. I have only found 1 store in my area that has tall and then pants and even then I only have like 2 pairs to choose from. You will not regret buying this.”

“I love the dapper snapper! My daughter is skinny and can’t wear jeans without it. If they fit in the waist, they’re too short and if they fit in the length, they’re falling off. The dapper snapper cinches her pants just enough to keep them from falling down but doesn’t bunch them up in the back. I can see many years of use from this item.”

When They Steal Your Idea (and more)

So, Wednesday I was on and I just happened across this (see below)… An item, that looks like Dapper Snappers, “Looks” is the key word here. Because if you look closely the snaps are different, as far as I can tell there might be more variations or differences but I do know that in reading the reviews, I clearly see that quality is for sure one of the things customers would be giving up when ordering these.

The reviews are in!

Here’s some Dapper Snapper reviews!

The whole “copying” my product thing might rub me the wrong way, but when they steal my photos… and they Photoshop their snaps onto my images…That really “buckles my belts”, so to speak!
